Backup Failed After Upgrading

After upgrading from Symantec Backup Exec 12 to Symantec Backup Exec 2010, I noticed some failed backup job.

Checking the job logs, apparently there are 2 issues.

The first issue is the source selections. After the upgrade, Backup Exec had somehow reverted back to older source selections for some scheduled jobs. So when the job run, we are getting the following error.

Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.Final error category: Resource Errors

This is annoying but easily fixed. Just re-select the correct source.

The second issue is more than annoying because the error message does not tell you much.

Final error: 0xe0000f09 - An error occurred when writing to the Backup Exec database. A synthetic backup of this resource will not include the data backed up by this operation until the next full or incremental backup of this resource.Final error category: Resource Errors

I tried re-running the backup, it failed.
I tried re-creating the job and run the backup, it failed.

The last thing that I tried to make it works is to delete some old catalog files from Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs.

Re-running those failed backup now.....

  1. Esse erro ocorre tambem quando a partição que o catalogo esta instalado esta cheia.. Verifique seu espaço em disco e tente liberar alguns MB's.
